Sir William Deane was a Member of the 11th Floor from 1963 to 1977. In 1977, he was appointed a Judge of the Supreme Court of New South Wales and, later that year, a Judge of the Federal Court of Australia and President of the Australian Trade Practices Tribunal. In 1982, he was appointed a Justice of the High Court of Australia. Sir William was the Governor General of Australia from 1996 to 2001.

In 2003, Frank McAlary QC retired after a long and distinguished career at the Bar spanning more than 50 years. Frank McAlary was a member of the 11th Floor from its establishment in 1957.

In September 2008, Stephen Gageler SC departed the 11th Floor after 17 years to serve as Solicitor-General to the Commonwealth of Australia.
